New Type of Thief?

Journal Entry: Fri May 16, 2008, 4:57 AM

I received a few favorites from someone I'd not noticed before in my favs, devwatch notices, or comments. As I had a few moments, I checked it out.

Strange. It was a stock account. "Gift Giver."

But I couldn't figure out the gallery. There were sets of photos, but you could not see without downloading the packs. There were no individual images in the gallery.

But the favorites gallery was overloaded. Hundreds of favorites, added in stacks and stacks. My images were buried, and yet they'd only been faved a few hours ago.

I kept the name in my misc notices for a while. I was curious, and a bit concerned.

Today I checked back on this individual. Banned.

Is this a new kind of thief? One who favorites images and creates sets of stock for download from stolen images?

Were they stealing images? Is that why the individual banned? And if so, how many manip artists downloaded those packs?

Perhaps DA should consider stating the reason for a ban if it is related to copyright violation. This individual may be gone, but those images may already be downloaded onto PCs the world over...

There is so much I still have to say.
But I've learned that I'm illiterate.

Actually, forty is here. And I am realizing with some concern that it is not always easy to let someone in and often difficult to truly step inside.

It does sound odd.... I do get concerned with "collectors" sometimes.

I've run into collectors doing this with my work...

There aren't any new kinds of thieves... just new kinds of victims I think. At least *this* one got caught, eh? Seriously, the *O*N*L*Y* way to keep your art safe is the same only way to keep keep a kid safe: lock 'em up and don't let 'em out of your sight. Which doesn't work in a practical world, no?

Sigh...

I only hope that not many downloaded the sets of "stock" images if they were, indeed, stolen.

Yes, very odd. Perhaps I should have downloaded one of the sets just to see what was in one. But now the person is gone and I'll never know.

Did they offer sets of stock images that could only be seen after downloading?
